On 22 November 2022, the annual Driver Test took place in Abu Dhabi, where Formula 1 teams can test drive their new drivers.

The Australian Oscar Piastri competed for the McLaren F1 Team with the MCL36 race car. Having already been a test driver for Alpine in the 2022 season, Piastri was able to secure a place as a regular driver for the 2023 season with the McLaren F1 Team.
